Step into the world of flavor at 洪火炉餐馆 Ang Hoay Lor Restaurant, a culinary gem nestled in the heart of George Town, Pulau Pinang. This restaurant specializes in authentic Hokkien cuisine and has been a beloved spot among locals for decades, ensuring that it offers a much-needed taste of nostalgia while highlighting the vibrant flavors of Malaysia's rich gastronomic heritage.

The ambiance here strikes a perfect balance between comfort and tradition, with its cozy air-conditioned space providing a welcome retreat from the bustling streets outside. However, be prepared for a bit of a challenge when it comes to parking, as the popularity of the restaurant often leads to a full house.

The moment you glance at the menu, you'll notice the star attractions: the oyster noodles and oyster omelette. Patrons rave about the oyster noodles, which are steeped in a robust seafood broth that enchants the palate with layers of umami. A satisfying dish that feels both hearty and comforting, it’s the ideal choice for any time of day. The oyster omelette comes highly recommended too, featuring plump, juicy oysters enveloped in a delightful, gooey texture that evokes the traditional "oh chien" experience that many have come to cherish.

Customers like Patricia Tay highlight the combination of freshness and flavor, with her enthusiasm for both dishes shining through. She recounts her experience of enjoying a generous portion of oysters that "don't have a fishy smell at all," which speaks volumes about the quality and freshness proudly upheld by 永火炉.

HC Lum captures the essence of this eatery by calling it a place rich with 古早味, meaning that it offers the authentic tastes of yesteryear. His personal favorites of the oyster omelette and pork meat soup are wonderfully indicative of the care and tradition that keep customers returning. Not to mention, the fried items, like the crisp fried fish and deep-fried prawns, are culinary triumphs that should not be missed as they showcase traditional Hokkien cooking techniques.

Despite its age, Ang Hoay Lor Restaurant remains relevant in today’s culinary scene, with excellent service always present to enhance your dining experience. Staff members are friendly and attentive, further amplifying that homey feel that allows guests to soak in the flavors while reminiscing about meals with family. Customer Momo Coco emphasizes that the restaurant still manages to "keep the old days environment" intact, making it not just a meal, but a memory.

We went slightly before closing time at approx 2pm and tried their oyster noodles and oyster omelette. Love both of it!! Oyster noodles is soaked in strong seafood broth. Oysters in the omelette were generous as well but it’s towards the gooey type of oyster omelette. Place is comfy and air conditioned, just that parking may be abit of a challenge. We double parked.

It’s an old restaurant which it’s popularly never fades away. They specialize in oysters 蠔面 蠔煎 pork meat soup and 虾卷are our regular orders. Each and every oysters are 肥美多汁, and the 蠔煎 is the gooey starch type (I preferred this type more than the eggy ones). You may find it’s a place rich of 古早味. They closed on Wednesday and have limited seating inside. But they do reservation if you are keen.

A real real 古早味 place. The place is filled with people who brings old parents there for a old days meal. The fried oyster egg is very good. The pork soup is a must have. There are a few noodles dishes that guests can select. The fried fish is crispy on the outside. The deep fried prawns is also very nice

Very authentic Hokkien cuisine. Like the Bak Kee soup very much. However, it's a bit pricey.

This restaurant has opened for decades already. Their taste still good. They still keeping the old days environment. Oyster very fresh, don't have fishy smell at all. Everything we ordered taste good, especially the "oh chien"/蚝煎/oyster omelette, one of the best that I've tried. The fried fish is very traditional hokkien style. All staffs are friendly.

Really enjoyed the food here—it felt like a taste of home. The dishes were comforting and wholesome, prepared in a simple yet heartwarming way that reminded me of meals from childhood. Nothing fancy, just honest flavors that bring back good memories. It’s the kind of homely comfort food that makes you slow down, enjoy the moment, and feel nostalgic at the same time.
